The distance between the beads is approximately 4.5 cm.
Unscrew the bottom bead from the rod, add your beads, and screw the bead back on tightly.
The chain is very easy to remove so you can attach the rod somewhere else. These rods are originally designed to hang from the handle of a Stanley Cup (drinking cup), for example, but you can use them for all kinds of purposes.
