I'm Marit, mother of three teenagers and the face behind Hugs & Things.

I've been working on this business with so much love since 2013 .

Hugs & Things began in the summer of 2013 with handmade baby items made from crocheted beads. Because that was incredibly time-consuming and demand grew quickly, silicone beads were soon added. They turned out to be a huge hit. At the time, silicone beads were still barely known in Europe. I even bought them in Canada and used to make teethers and pacifier clips myself.

In early 2015, I decided to change direction and focus entirely on silicone. I was the first in the Benelux (and probably Europe) to launch an online store selling loose silicone beads, sourced directly from factories. I've been working with silicone since early 2015, and Hugs & Things has since grown into a webshop with a huge range and a unique color palette.

What has never changed: I do almost everything myself.

From purchasing to photography, from writing copy to customer service, from social media to packing and shipping orders (with a lovely helper for a few mornings each week). Many customers really appreciate that personal contact: you always know who you're talking to, and I'm almost always available. (Yes, I'm still learning to set boundaries there too 😉)

Safety and service come first for me.

I’m always happy to help you think things through, look into things for you (for example, regarding safety), take my time when you come to shop, and do my best to prevent problems. Sometimes that means getting in touch because I think something might not be quite right for what you want to make, or resending a delayed package so you don't have to wait.

Hugs & Things was born out of love, and that truly remains at the heart of everything I do.
