Did you know that Hugs & Things is just one person?
I always have to laugh a little to myself: people often address me as “you all” or “the Hugs & Things team.” It sounds very professional, of course, but the reality is quite different (and much smaller)!
Because behind Hugs & Things there’s really just… me. Marit.
Single mom, business owner, creative, packer, customer service rep, buyer, photographer, website builder, and everything in between. Okay, I do get help packing two mornings a week - and I’m so grateful for that - but apart from that, I do it all myself.

You might expect an online store to always have a whole team ready, let you order late into the evening, and have your package arrive the very next day. But things work a little differently for me. I do my very best to keep everything running smoothly, but sometimes it takes a little longer.
Because besides running Hugs & Things, I’m also a mom of 3 teenagers, try to exercise regularly (my me-time), and of course have to keep up with the housework.
Luckily, I really love my work, and I still do a little dance every time a new order comes in (ssstt: the “ka-ching” my phone makes when an order is placed is secretly one of my favorite sounds).

But still: working alone and being on call almost 24 hours a day isn’t something anyone can keep up forever. That’s why I take 2 to 3 weeks off every summer to recharge. You can still place orders during that time, but no packages will be shipped.
And to be honest, that summer vacation is a little nerve-racking every year.
Especially now that I have more and more business customers, it sometimes feels quite complicated and frustrating that they can’t receive any deliveries for 3 weeks. That’s why I’ve been announcing my vacations well in advance for the past few years. Hopefully, this means you won’t be caught by surprise.
Of course, I hope everyone - both individual and business customers - will keep ordering just as enthusiastically during and after my vacation as before. It’s always a little stressful for me each year, but I trust that it’ll all work out. Those few weeks to recharge are absolutely essential so I can be here for you with fresh energy all year long!

So if you ever have to wait a little longer for a reply or a package: just know there isn’t a big team behind the scenes, but one person taking care of your order with lots of love, care, and joy. And I do it every day with a big smile!
Love,
Marit
