Everything about my satin wire (and a bit about acrylic cord)

I regularly get questions about the satin wire that I am selling. That's why I would like to tell you more about it in this blog.

What types of satin wire do I sell?

I am selling two variants:

  • Satin wire of 1.5 mm

  • Satin wire of 2 mm

It 1.5 mm satin wire has been part of my range from the start. When I made baby items myself, I always worked with it. All colors were tested for chemical composition and certified.
I think this is a super nice thread to work with. The only drawback: there are not many colors available.

That is why I have a number of colors in 2025 Satin wire of 2 mm added. Note: this thread is not tested. So I advise against baby items.
But for things like key chains it is perfect. And you have just a little more colors to vary with!

What about the rules for pacifier cords?

The most asked question I get is: "Can you use satin wire of 1.5 mm for pacifier cords?"

The official guidelines state that the cord at least 2 mm thick must be. Yet there are already a lot of pacifier cords with my 1.5 mm wire that have been tested and approved without any problems.

The photo below shows why it is:
On the left you see my wire of 1.5 mm, on the right a wire of 2 mm. Visually there is little difference. The thicker thread is a bit looser woven, but contains just as much fiber. That is it not necessarily stronger - And you even get faster trips in it.

Does the thread actually fit through the beads?

Of course!
The holes in the silicone beads are 2 mm. You would think that it can only go through it once, but that is not so bad. On the photo below you can see a bead with four threads Satin thread - and that was surprisingly easy.

Silicones are flexible, and so you can really string a bead several times, sturdy buttons and neatly finish.

And what exactly is acrylic cord?

Since 2024 I also sell acrylic. This looks a bit like paracord and is becoming increasingly popular for pacifier cords. It consists of a white core with a woven outer layer around it.

Acrylic cord is slightly thicker than satin wire, which sometimes makes it a bit more difficult to work with. Yet you can see on the photo below that there is just Two wires of acrylic cord fit through a bead.

The biggest stumbling block: it is too thick for the threaded needles that I am selling. But there is a simple solution for that:

➡️ Use a folded piece of iron wire as a needle.
Carefully insert the ends through the bead, pull the thread through it, and ready!

Summarized:

✔️ Satin wire of 1.5 mm: certified, suitable for baby items.
✔️ Satin wire of 2 mm: more colors, but not tested - perfect for key chains.
✔️ Acrylic cord: tough and sturdy, but a little more difficult to process.

Do you make baby items?
Then choose the 1.5 mm satin wire. Then you know for sure that it is safe - and that is so nice when it regularly disappears into a mouth. 😊
